SCOTT CHRISTENSEN - EXPOSURE EMERGING PHOTOGRAPHERS SHOWCASE
Industrial parks exist as indiscernible components of the urban landscape – liminal spaces that are rarely interacted with in a conscious way. They blur into the background of reality, their scale and size rarely noted. However, at night these industrial parks gain new form. There is an air of anonymity in the darkness of night; the familiarity of day gives way to an unseen world. The darkness serves to obscure the banal nature of these areas, as what little ambient light that is present renders the space in new and abstract ways. By documenting the altered landscape of industrial parks at night they are presented in a new context. This new perspective allows for the expanse of these places to be observed more consciously.
BIOGRAPHY
Scott Christensen is a self-taught photographer from Calgary, Alberta. Scott is most interested in exploring how people identify with the world around them – how they find place and meaning within it. He focuses on the intersection between the observed and unobserved, and how that influences the way in which people interact with the world. By documenting subject matter in ways that presents them in new perspectives, Scott seeks to establish new narratives by which the world is identified. Through his work, Scott strives to make people more conscious of the subtle details of the world around them.
