GRAND Movies presents PECKER, a John Waters film

Friday, February 9, 7-10pm
Cost: $5
Location: Theatre Junction GRAND

A one-night-only screening of Pecker (1998), a John Water’s film about an amateur photographer, so-named because he pecks at his food. The film frames Pecker’s evolution from an inconnu snapping pics on shift at a Baltimore sandwich shop to the new darling of the New York art scene. It’s a gritty view of life as an emerging artist and a sneak peek into the pitfalls of making it big in the Manhattan art world.

Starring Edward Furlong, Christina Ricci and Bess Armstrong, Pecker is an off-beat flick that grapples with the very dilemmas that beset anyone aspiring to turn their love for photography into a profession or accept its siren call as a vocation. Particularly relevant in today’s mobile photography world.

Pecker is a special edition in our Movies at the GRAND series, in honour of Exposure Fest. Expect a relaxed viewing experience with drinks and snacks on hand and a living room vibe.

Join a post-show discussion about the “art” of mobile photography and its impact on photography as a fine art with Donna Schwartz, President and Board Chair, Exposure Festival and Kurtis Lesick, Faculty of Media Arts, School of Craft and Emerging Media, ACAD, and photojournalist Michael Drew.
