We are thrilled to announce that from January 31 - April 26 2020, the Exposure Festival HQ will be held in Contemporary Calgary. Displayed within its dramatically bold brutalist spaces are the three festival feature exhibitions: International Open Call, Emerging Photographers Showcase and 2019 Emerging Photographer of the Year, Boon Ong’s, Our Closets.

EXHIBITIONS
International open call
Juried by Travis Cole, Executive Director at Paved Arts, the International Open Call exhibition features an international group of photographers and lens-based artists. The exhibition shows a broad range of works, including photojournalism and photocollage, abstract and politically engaged photography,and works engaging with social and individual experience, along with visual explorations of identity and personal narratives.
Exhibiting artists are Ala Buisir (Dublin, Ireland), Sandra Chen Weinstein (Lake Forest, CA, USA), Arianne Clément (Montreal, QC), Peter Greendale (Cochrane, AB), Philip Harris (Derby, UK), Lucky Keller (Derby, UK), Robert Lie (Kepri, Indonesia), Patrick McCloskey (Canmore, AB), Mark Murphy (Birmingham, UK), Graeme Oxby (Lincoln, UK), Angeline Simon (Lethbridge, AB), Sunny Strader (Los Angeles, CA, USA), Anne Tapler White (Calgary, AB), Emma Wilson (North Humberside, UK), and Denis Wong (Montreal, QC).
Emerging photographers showcase
Joanne Marion, Director/Curator of Exhibitions and Collections at Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre, the Emerging Photographers Showcase presents the work of fifteen Alberta photographers. The exhibition celebrates the rich talent of early-career practitioners who are based in the province.
This exhibition is printed and framed by the Emerging Photographers Showcase sponsor, Resolve Photo.
Exhibiting artists are Wilmer Aburto, Jayden Daniels, Manikarnika Kanjilal, Liam Kavanagh-Bradette, Jake Kimble, Sasha Lavoie, Michelle Lazo, Nahanni McKay, Zachary Morris, J. Ashley Nixon, Lily Pavle, Andres Porras, Colleen Rauscher, Toni Reed, and Nicholas Taylor.
2019 Emerging Photographer of the Year: Boon Ong ‘Our Closets’
Boon Ong, the recipient of the 2019 Emerging Photographer of the Year award, presents his solo show ‘Our Closets.’ Boon explored his personal coming out story through photography. Now he uses it to connect with others on their journeys out of their own closets. According to Ong, a closet is anything that holds us back from our full expression of self, whether sexuality, health, experiential stagnation or unfulfilling employment.
