ARTIFACTS, DAVID BURDENY
Herringer Kiss Gallery
February 4 – March 4
David Burdeny's new works, taken during his most recent trip to Japan, highlight Tokyo storefronts. Here he is treating the images more as architectural drawings where he has removed all the clutter around the central image.
David writes, "We used to do drawing studies like this in architectural school. We’d head out into the field with a watercolour pad, pens, conte etc, and study one building and float them on the page in a similar way. When you remove the surrounding noise/background there’s more to see and the subject becomes something special. It’s not dissimilar to having a long conversation with someone alone in a quiet cafe vs a noisy nightclub. Tokyo is visually a noisy nightclub (metaphorically speaking) so I borrowed an old drawing technique and applied it to a photograph to see the city in a new way.
Open: Tue - Sat: 11:00 - 17:00
Access: Location is wheelchair accessible. Exhibition is child friendly.
