Exploring the Skyline of Calgary CityScapes: A Photographic Journey Through Downtown Calgary's Iconic Buildings

“As I wander through the awe-inspiring skyline of downtown Calgary, I can't help but be mesmerized by the towering skyscrapers that dominate the sky. These structures, symbols of the city's growth and development, have become my muse, and I have spent countless hours capturing their beauty through my lens.

My photography is not just about the buildings themselves. It's about capturing the unique character and history that each one holds. And I do it all on analog large and medium format cameras and discontinued B&W films. The films I like the most are no longer made and are sought after by many photography collectors.

The use of superior analog film, such as Kodak Technical Pan, adds a certain depth and texture to the images that digital simply can't match. Another newer option is Adox CMS20 that is one of the most superior analog films ever made. This entire journey of seeing, shooting, developing, scanning and processing my negatives for print is a nod to the past, while also embracing the present and future of the city that is the most unique place in Canada with magical angles and limitless skies.

One of my favourite buildings to photograph is the iconic Calgary Tower. Standing at 191 meters tall, it offers stunning views of the city and serves as a beacon for visitors and locals alike. Its unique design, with its flared base and spire, makes it a striking subject for my camera.

But the Calgary Tower is not the only building that catches my eye. I enjoy capturing the modern architecture of buildings like the Bow, a skyscraper that stands as a symbol of the city's forward-thinking attitude. Its unique design, with its curved shape and glass exterior, makes it a visually stunning subject.

As I continue to explore the limitless amount of concrete, metal and glass of downtown Calgary, I am constantly inspired by the beauty and history of the buildings that surround me. And with my trusty powerhouse Mamiya RZ67 medium format, and Horseman F45 4"x5" format analog camera, I am able to capture these moments and share them with the world.”
