Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) has been offering traditional darkroom courses in Calgary continuously for over 50 years. SAIT's instructors bring a real passion to their craft and enjoy offering students a truly immersive experience in one of western Canada's finest darkroom facilities.

The photographers participating in this exhibition have honed their skills and love of the darkroom at SAIT. Their wide range of skill, talent and creativity provides an opportunity for connection and creative collaboration leading to the creation of a vibrant, cohesive community.

Participating artists are interested in traditional analog photography and darkroom methods as well as alternative processes. Of note, many award winning Canadian fine art photographers and photojournalists have honed their craft in SAIT’s Darkroom.

This exhibition features works in many different genres and styles, all working within the rich tradition of analog photography.

SAIT’s Darkroom community is unique in that it embodies over 50 years of creative engagement by analog photographers in Calgary. This enduring evolution and longevity situates the Darkroom and its participants as important contributors to Calgary’s photographic history.
