Delve into Byron Robb’s journey of fresh and contemporary cubist photography. Motivated as an exploration to go beyond the popular genres of photography, such as wildlife and landscapes, Byron was launched into this field by the cubist masters of the early 20th Century. Artists like Picasso, Marcel Duchamp and Fernand Leger.

Byron has always been fascinated with cubist painters and wondered if it would be possible to produce photographs representing three dimensional space in a different way.

Throughout history painters have tried to create the feeling and appearance of depth on a two dimensional medium. Cubism dispensed with that idea by depicting space as supported by the flatness of the canvas. This was done by painting a subject from several vantage points and the use of several planes.

While a painter may put brush to canvas with any idea that enters their head, a photographer is limited to what is in front of the lens. With that limitation, Byron began his journey by photographing familiar street scenes and buildings from multiple angles and perspectives then using portions of these images in layers and various orientations to create cubist photographs.

This recent body of work includes intriguing subjects such as vintage and abandoned vehicles, portraits, household items and musical instruments.
