LIAM MACKENZIE - EXPOSURE EMERGING PHOTOGRAPHERS SHOWCASE

Familiar Faces is a project I started to combat some mental health issues, where I created a self-portrait daily for a month. Upon this reflection, I saw pieces of myself that I've repressed over the years. Growing up as queer and disabled in a conservative environment, I learned to repress qualities of myself to survive. However, this project has allowed me to create space and give a platform for the parts of myself that I minimalized. My flamboyancy, my gender expression, my vulnerability, and my love are some parts that I needed to dig out and nurture. Familiar Faces has allowed me to nurture myself and to redefine what love, resilience, and self- care means to me.
