The Mobile Darkroom / Alberta
Exhibition dates: February 16 - 17
Opening reception: February 16, 6-11pm
Shane Arsenault and Natalia Barberis present their latest collaborative project - “The Mobile Darkroom / Alberta”.
Over the course of two years, this duo hand built an ultra large format 16x20 inch field camera, constructed a mobile darkroom (which allowed them to photograph and develop their prints on location); and photographed a unique collection of images capturing a quintessential view of present day Alberta.
Inspired by the hand crafted photographic process’ of 19th century photographers such as Roger Fenton and Mathew Brady - Shane and Natalia replaced the horse drawn darkroom wagon with the 21st century spin of a vehicle drawn darkroom trailer. This propelled them to explore and create images of Edmonton, Drumheller, Calgary, Banff, Crowsnest Pass, and everywhere in between. The result is hand made imagery that reflects the diverse modern landscape of Alberta, along with the encroaching presence of man made scenery.
