Since I was a child, I have confused dreams with memories, and memories with photographs. My family would contest my version of events on a regular basis and so I began to take photographs not to forget. Photography can produce an image so real, so inscribed in time, that it is capable of replacing human memories yet in reality, memories are moving, amorphous, swaddled in emotion, and evolving over time and apparently in my case, entirely subject to the hallucinations of dreaming. Or Was That a Dream? explores experimental black and white darkroom techniques to depict the inner reality, the one that spills and overlaps and forgets.
