Exploring the human scope in the landscape is the subject of the Town & Country photographic exhibition of Tom Willock and Bill Peters.​

The photographers consider the implications of urban and rural environments. By setting up a dialogue between what was and what is, whether it is in the city, small towns, or their nearby countryside, they delve into the human nature of our surroundings. Considered within the context of the rural to urban shift, these images encourage conversations of the challenges and issues as well as the celebrations of who we are and what we are doing.​

A native of southern Alberta, Tom Willock has photographed the landscape of his home for over 60 years. He considers us all part of a story. Each of us participates in the historical unfolding of places and lives - human, animal, plant, geological and geographical - all interconnected in some way. We, as "keepers of the kin" to the earth - as witnesses, are each responsible for making the words and images and memories that tell these stories. For Tom, the place has been the southern landscape along the U.S. border from the shortgrass of the prairie dog town near Val Marie, Saskatchewan, across the Sweetgrass Hills and the Milk River Valley to the Crown of the Continent peaks of Waterton and Glacier National Parks in Alberta and Montana, and up the Rockies to Banff. Photography and writing help him tell these stories.​

Bill Peters is a Calgary based photographer who is fascinated by the visual personality of the built environment at the core of cities. In Peters’ eye, the city shimmers and vibrates with light and dynamic colours, with refraction and reflection and dramatic forms. His images invite viewers to see their city in a different way, exploring and discovering the City unseen patterns and graphic character.​
